Research Associate
School of History, Archaeology and Religion
An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join the School of History, Archaeology and Religion. This role will be responsible in conducting research in multi-isotope analysis, working on Roman period faunal (and potentially archaeobotanical) remains to contribute to the study of the diet of the Roman army and the strategies of food production and provisioning on the frontiers. The research is part of the ERC Consolidator Grant ‘Feeding the Roman Army, Making the Empire’ and the role-holder will contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University, carrying out research leading to the publishing of high-quality research meeting the project’s aims as required by the project lead. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.
This is one of two post-doctoral research positions in isotope analysis and the two role holders will work together in sample preparation and analysis on different aspects of the project (e.g. geographical areas, material types or isotope systems) to be defined depending on the skillsets of the successful candidates.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), is fixed term for 41 months, with a start date of 2nd September 2026 until 1st February 2030.

Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6). We anticipate that this post will start at the bottom of grade.
