Internal Applicants Only - Senior Lecturer Teaching and Scholarship (2 posts)
Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer Teaching and Scholarship, to work within the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
The postholder will deliver high quality teaching, assessment, and student support across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The role involves leading curriculum development, creating innovative teaching materials, evaluating the impact of educational enhancements, and ensuring modules remain current and engaging. As a module leader and personal tutor, the role also provides academic guidance, pastoral care, and supervision of student research projects.
Alongside teaching, the position requires active engagement in educational scholarship, including conducting pedagogical research, publishing in reputable journals, and presenting at national and international academic forums. The role contributes to the advancement of teaching practice within the school and supports the professional development of colleagues through leadership in learning, teaching, and assessment.
The post also carries significant leadership, administrative, and external facing responsibilities. This includes coordinating programme delivery, contributing to strategic planning, liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as NHS partners and regulatory bodies, and strengthening the school’s regional, national, and international profile. The role supports quality assurance processes and fosters collaborative relationships that enhance the school’s academic and professional impact.
The successful applicant will be a qualified pharmacist, registered with the GPhC as an Independent Prescriber, supported by a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice and a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent educational experience. This combination ensures strong clinical capability alongside a solid foundation in teaching and learning theory.
The postholder must bring substantial experience in training healthcare professionals, including designing and delivering innovative teaching, developing courses, assessing learners, and providing high quality feedback. Strong leadership and supervisory experience are essential, as is a track record of research, service evaluation, or quality improvement work that informs and enhances clinical practice. Excellent communication skills are required to convey complex ideas clearly across different media, alongside the ability to offer effective pastoral support to students.
The role also demands strong personal attributes, including self motivation, flexibility, effective time management, and problem solving skills. To maintain clinical credibility and ensure teaching remains practice relevant, the individual must currently work at least one day per week in a patient facing pharmacist role.
