Facilities Technician
School of Optometry and Vision Sciences
We are excited to be inviting applications for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Technician to join our School’s Technical Team. You will play an important role in supporting our staff, assisting in day-to-day running of our eye clinics, laboratories, and communal areas of our School.
The role would suit someone who enjoys interacting with people, has some experience of maintaining equipment, is organised and comfortable with using various IT software packages. The role requires someone with a proactive can-do attitude, with problem-solving skills, along with an ability to cover a broad range of tasks in a day, and work with a flexible approach in a fast-paced environment.

The School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, based in Cathays, is a purpose-built facility; credited with being the only optometric training department in Wales and one of the largest in the UK. With an international reputation for its research and teaching activities, the School includes a number of award-winning staff and students and is ranked in 1st place in the UK for Optometry (Complete University Guide). There are just over 100 employees in our School, creating a welcoming and supportive culture with a strong sense of inclusivity and collegiality.

We want to support and develop you once you have started in the role using a combination of the following to get the best out of you; Regular one-to-ones with your team leader / an experienced and supportive team around you / Supporting you through job-relevant training and development that you may require, as identified by your team leader and access to mentoring schemes.
This position is open-ended, full time on campus (35 hours per week) and is available immediately.
Salary: £25,249 - £26,093 per annum (Grade 3). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
